Currently, there are too many obstacles in the path of anyone choosing a good death. Refusal to provide assistance to someone determined to end their existence is fraught with the risks of a bad death, further injury to the patient and in the instances of suicide involving third parties, trauma and guilt. I am certain most first responders can relate to a suicide involving vehicular traffic or leaps from high places. If a sane person decides that their life has been lived and wants to end their life in a dignified manner, it is their choice, only their choice.
