The Rounds Table
The Rounds Table is a free regular podcast hosted by Healthy Debate. Its purpose is to provide an informative and irreverent discussion of new research from major medical journals. Each week it explores topics from the latest medical research.
The Rounds Table has received funding from a Canadian Society of Internal Medicine Education and Research Grant and a University of Toronto Office of Continuing Professional Development Continuing Education Research & Development Grant.

Michael Fralick, Co-Director of the Rounds Table
Michael Fralick is a General Internist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. He completed a Master of Science in Clinical Epidemiology at Harvard University including a Research Fellowship in Health Policy at the Program On Regulation Therapeutics And Law (PORTAL), at the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics. His PhD, completed at the University of Toronto, focused on the intersection between Machine Learning and Pharmacoepidemiology. He works clinically at Mount Sinai and the Sault Area Hospital. @fralickmike
John Fralick, Co-Director of the Rounds Table
John Fralick is a General Internist at the Scarborough Health Network and St. Michael’s Hospital. He completed a Master of Science in Epidemiology at Queen’s University. He completed medical school at the University of Calgary and did his internal medicine training at the University of Toronto. @johnfralick8
Emily Hughes, Producer of the Rounds Table [2016-2019]
Emily Hughes is an Internal Medicine resident at the University of Toronto. She completed medical school at the University of Toronto, and prior to that, an Honours Bachelor of Sciences specializing in Life Sciences at Queen’s University. Her interest in journalism started with hosting the award-winning radio show, Right of Reply on CFRC 101.9fm, at Queen’s. She has since written for CMAJ News and The Medical Post. She has been part of The Rounds Table team since 2016, as the Producer for Seasons 3-5. In another life, she loves to sing. She was Vocals Lead for the 106th annual University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine’s charity musical, Daffydil. Follow her @emmy_hughes.
Emilio Garcia Flores Audio Editor [2016 – current]
Emilio is an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto pursuing a Bachelor of Science, specializing in Neuroscience. Aside from this, Emilio has an aspiration to one day reach the ranks of others involved with the podcast, and would like to pursue a career in medicine. Outside of the academic life and in addition to his expertise in audio production, his most notable achievements in the arts include his various first-place competitive performances on the classical guitar and his grade 10 RCM skill level on this instrument.
Amol Verma, Founder and Director of the Rounds Table [2014 – 2016]
Amol Verma is a physician and scientist at St. Michael’s Hospital and Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto. After medical school at the University of Toronto, he completed a Masters at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, and residency in general internal medicine and a research fellowship at the University of Toronto. @amolaverma
Kieran Quinn, Director of the Rounds Table [2016 – 2019]
Kieran Quinn is a General Internist and Palliative Care physician at the University of Toronto and health services researcher affiliated with ICES. He is presently pursuing his PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Health Services Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation. He is a Vanier Scholar and is part of the Eliot Phillipson Clinician Scientist Training Program and Clinician Investigator Program at the University of Toronto. Kieran’s research interests focus on providing high-value end-of-life care, with several ongoing projects examining the role of palliative care in people with noncancer illness. He is also the loving father of Hunter, Austin and Kennedy and husband to his dedicated wife, Lynn. @kieranlquinn
