A VISION of Stability: Effects of Body Weight Fluctuation on Coronary Outcomes and Post-Operative Troponins on Mortality

Overweight and obese patients are routinely counselled about weight loss since it is thought to improve numerous outcomes. However, as many of us know, achieving stable weight loss is easier said than done! In patients with existing coronary disease, is the weight fluctuation that is often associated with weight loss attempts harmful? Fahad takes listeners through an article on the latest evidence.

Next, Emily and Sheliza are back with a special segment on sepsis. New definitions of sepsis and septic shock are covered as well as prognostic scores (SOFA & qSOFA) and management goals.

Finally, Amol takes listeners through a prospective cohort study examining the effect of elevated post-operative troponin levels on mortality in patients undergoing inpatient non-cardiac surgery. Are we getting closer to understanding myocardial injury after non-cardiac surgery? Listen to find out!

It wouldn’t be The Rounds Table without the Good Stuff segment. Fahad discusses a sobering article on the largest measles outbreak in decades. Then, have you heard about the new male birth control that is being developed in India? Amol has the info!
