This is Jennifer. She is a family physician.
“Do you remember how it felt in March as the world suddenly changed? There was so much fear and anxiety around the unknowns of the virus, along with PPE shortages and new ‘social distancing’ measures.
Every day there seemed to be a new record high or record low number of cases in Ontario. What did it all mean?
I wanted to see for myself how the situation was evolving, but I could not find any graphs to understand the context so I decided to make my own.
My intention was to translate the numbers and medical jargon to something understandable for everyone, and make it accessible on Twitter. I want to provide the public with knowledge to empower them to understand and care for their own health. People deserve to have facts and data. It helps to give a sense of control over the unprecedented situation and provide justification that our individual sacrifices are making an impact. As the numbers come down, they also offer much-needed reassurance and hope. Even beyond the pandemic, my goal is to help people navigate the mysteries of medicine and their own human body.
The pandemic raises many questions and perspectives, but we all share the same main goals: to stay safe and healthy, save the economy, and get back to ‘normal’ as soon as possible. I believe that we will get through this together, with newfound insight and appreciation for our ‘normal’ daily lives.”
