“It was a ceremonious moment to go on stage in front of all our friends and families to have the stethoscope placed around our shoulders. The stethoscope ceremony is a symbol of our entry into the medical profession and the privilege to care for patients.
Years since that milestone ceremony, we now work day and night on our 26 hour shifts to care for patients amidst a pandemic.
We have even learned that our symbol of medicine – the stethoscope – is a fomite.
To avoid potentially infecting patients with the tools we examine with, we have learned to be flexible and adapt our clinical skills and resources to continue to provide safe care to all our patients.”
