Ceinwen is a family medicine Resident who has been redeployed to work in public health.
“Because I’m in the public health residency, I’ve had the opportunity to work in local public health units investigating outbreaks. I have been working with different long term care facilities, group homes, and other congregate care settings as a public health liaison to manage ongoing outbreaks.
I think that there is a lot happening behind the scenes when it comes to public health.
For every patient that gets seen in a hospital with COVID-19, there is a group of people in a local public health unit following up with them, identifying everyone they came into contact with, and following up with those contacts to ensure that there’s no more spread. I think that these types of procedures are less visible, but have contributed the most in preventing further spread.
I’ve been lucky enough to see how the pandemic has impacted the public directly. Many people aren’t aware of the role that public health has in managing the community response.”
