This is Sally. She is an Internal Medicine Resident
“Two months ago things started to change at a rapid pace. Day-to-day life became full of restrictions. There became so many things we couldn’t do. No travelling, no going out for dinner, no going to the gym, no hanging out with friends, no hugging my parents, and the list goes on. In mid-March when my board exams were cancelled days before I was scheduled to write, I was frustrated – even angry – because I had put my life on hold to prepare for the exam.
In a matter of days, new legitimate restrictions replaced the ones I had been imposing on myself.
I have a bad habit of doing this: putting my life on hold while working towards some big deadline. The importance of maintaining balance isn’t a new idea, but it’s one I’ve struggled to internalize and implement in my own life.
I’m grateful that this experience has reminded me to prioritize what is truly important.”
