“Redeployment. What does this mean for healthcare workers these days?
It means a new team. A new work setting. A new job.
At the beginning of COVID-19, I was redeployed to occupational health to help manage the influx of COVID-19 related questions and concerns. I began by answering phone calls and addressing questions related to COVID-19. We were a team of 10. Now we are a team of 50+ redeployed nurses, administrative staff, and other health care workers assessing, calling, and following up with hospital employees. We have created new processes, documents, and hospital protocols to support our work in the assessment centre.
It’s been challenging, confusing, and frustrating at times. We are providing emotional support, knowledge and guidance when things are not always clear and the answers are not always black and white. We’re learning together. It’s been one large quality improvement project.”
