“I am a community pharmacist and a manager of a drug store in Oshawa. To sum up my feelings around COVID-19, I just feel scared. Scared of every unprotected patient that talks to me. Scared of what will happen if my staff call in sick. Scared of bringing home the virus to my mom and my 95 year old grandfather.
Every week that I make it through feels like an accomplishment.
I made an oath to serve my patients and that gives me the energy to go into work everyday through the midst of the uncertainty.
People often don’t realize it but your community pharmacist plays a huge role.
From ensuring patients get their meds in time, to assessing minor ailments, to talking to patients through mental health crisis, to preventing harm by ensuring the medication prescribed is safe, to giving injections, and even helping patients decide if they should call the ambulance or go to a walk in… the list goes on and on.
In times when people need someone to turn to the most, I try to be the best pharmacist I can possibly be. We are in this together!”
