“I moved here a year ago from the East coast, hoping for new challenges and perspectives. Five years ago, I couldn’t have guessed I’d end up here – let alone in a pandemic.
While most of my friends and family live in provinces with fewer cases of COVID-19, I worry about them. Now going on 5 months since I’ve been home, I also worry it will be a long time until I see them again.
What’s shocked me most is how quickly those around me have adapted to the new challenges.
There is a classic analogy that learning in medicine is like drinking from a firehose.
With every news site and journal being overrun with new information about COVID-19, watching those who are years to decades my senior adapt has been humanizing and inspiring.
As the initial sense of anxiety have given way to solidarity and optimism, it’s been incredible to see the resultant surge of innovation.
It’s hard to say what the coming months have in store. But what I do know is that I feel lucky for my health and that of those close to me, to be employed, and to be surrounded by amazing people who are motivated – and motivate me – to do good.”
