We’re off to an EPIC Start! Cancer Screening Cessation and Coffee Drinking & Mortality
Grab a cup of coffee and get ready to listen – we’re back with a brand new episode to kick off the fourth season of The Rounds Table. How do older adults prefer to discuss cancer screening cessation with their clinicians? Does regular coffee consumption impact mortality? Kieran Quinn and Emily Hughes cover two thought provoking new studies.
Choosing Wisely recommends that clinicians should not routinely screen for cancer in patients with limited life expectancy, but this is not what happens in practice. Many older adults with limited life expectancy are still frequently screened. Emily covers a qualitative study which examines older adults’ thoughts on cancer screening cessation and preferences on how clinicians should communicate the decision to stop screening.
Next, what better way to kick off a new year than a big data study examining something that many of us do daily – drink coffee! Kieran covers the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC) study which examines the association between coffee drinking and mortality.
Finally, it wouldn’t be The Rounds Table without the Good Stuff segment. What’s the risk of developing chronic traumatic encephalopathy as an American football player? Why was being in a large crowd the best way to experience the solar eclipse? Emily and Kieran share the answers to these interesting questions!
