This week on The Rounds Table Kieran Quinn and Katie Wiskar are back with two important studies; the first on visiting hours in the ICU and the second on NT-proBNP guided therapy in heart failure.
Katie takes listeners through a systematic review and meta-analysis which showed that flexible ICU visiting policies were associated with reduced delirium and anxiety among patients, and greater satisfaction among family members. However, these flexible policies were also associated with increased burnout among healthcare providers.
Next, Kieran takes listeners through an RCT on the utility of NT-proBNP guided therapy in acute decompensated heart failure. This is a follow up to our September episode in which we covered the GUIDE-IT trial which investigated the utility of outpatient BNP to guide heart failure management.
Finally, the Good Stuff segment. Kieran shares an article examining the problems with stopping trials early. Katie shares an article on the Shrug technique for ultrasound guided subclavian lines.
