In Their Own Words

Blank 67

It’s been over 500 days since I held someone and not just someone; anyone
this world filled with change
and I’m having a hard time catching up
faces behind masks hiding away from the pain of our reality yet we grow older
grow bolder
and grow in our separate ways without growing apart

I’ll always want to know how your day was
I hope it was good
not a day that’s gonna make you spiral
down into the abyss
I’ll always be there
to help you pull to the top because
you were there for me
and we both know what it’s like to be alone

If you were here I’d hug you so hard
I’d never let you go
2485 kilometres is just too far away
quarantine doesn’t scare me anymore
I’d risk it just for you
make the sad times glad times
get face cramps from smiling
your my rainbow on a cloudy day

Remember all those times we stayed up
we traded songs and felt alive
we never gave a crap
even on nights we don’t hang
I’m thinking about you
so i guess this is my way of saying
I’ll always battle the dark with you

Forever I will harass you without mercy
hydrate before you diedrate
you’re too important to be deprived
I’ll never not
threaten to break international laws
to come bubble wrap
your fragile heart
I can’t help it bro, I care

It’s interesting how I could think of this as one poem or 5 small poems. I enjoyed reading it as 5 small poems, and the one that grabbed my attention was
“I’ll always want to know how your day was
    I hope it was good
not a day that’s gonna make you spiral
    down into the abyss
    I’ll always be there
to help you pull to the top because
    you were there for me
and we both know what it’s like to be alone”

Thank you Mackenzie Campbell for your poetry.
