This week, Amol discusses contrast induced nephropathy. At an overall reported incidence of 10%, contrast induced nephropathy leads to worse clinical outcomes and double the rate of mortality. A systematic review and meta-analysis on the effectiveness of prevention strategies found that there is no strong evidence for any intervention beyond volume expansion with saline. N-acetyl cysteine may have modest benefits and statins may provide benefits in patients receiving intra-arterial contrast.
We also welcome Dr. Michelle Nadler, an internal medicine resident at McMaster University. Her guest segment describes the first Canadian guidelines for clinicians on the safety and efficacy of exercise for people living with cancer.
