This week on The Rounds Table Kieran Quinn and Paxton Bach are covering two important articles: catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation with heart failure and the association between myocardial infarction (MI) and influenza.
It is common for atrial fibrillation and CHF to co-exist in patients. Yet, optimal management of these co-existing conditions has yet to be fully elucidated. Paxton covers an RCT which examines the effect of catheter ablation for rhythm control on hospitalization for heart failure and mortality in the CASTLE-AF trial.
Next, Kieran covers a study examining the association between MI and influenza. Acute MI can be triggered by acute respiratory infections, but prior studies have been limited by significant bias in defining the association between the two. In this self-controlled case-series study this association is examined with a concerning result!
Finally, the Good Stuff segment. Kieran examines the direct costs of motorcycle crashes in Ontario; Paxton shares an article on a dating sites for gorillas!
